DESCRIPTION:Oral History Training\nAre you interested in LGBTQ+ history\, storytelling\, and archives? \nWe are looking for volunteers to gather stories about the Club Kali Network. Free oral History Training provided.\nVolunteers will be interviewing a range of people who have been connected with Club Kali from the 1990s to present. You will record these rich and vibrant stories to inform the archive\, events and exhibition outputs. \nBefore starting the interviews\, we will give you free training to learn about effective interview techniques\, ethics and using recording equipment. \nWant to find out more? Or apply for a place in our training programme:\nCONTACT US\nOverview of the training\nThis course aims to equip volunteers with an introduction to the theory and practice of oral history. Participants will learn the key theoretical\, technical and ethical concepts around the doing of oral history and the practical skills to conduct interviews.\nTraining format\nThe training will be delivered in blended-learning\, through a mix of in-person and follow-up online sessions. \n#1 Saturday 26 October 12.30 pm to 17:30\, Queer Britain Museum\, London N1C 4BH\nSession 1. The practice of oral history interviewing \n• Introduction to the project and to each other\n• Introduction to oral history\n• Interviewing skills and mock interview practice\n• Group reflections\n• Designing the interview guide/topic\n• Group presentations and discussion\n• Digital audio recording \nSession 2. Interview preparation\, legal and ethical aspects of oral history and recording digital interviews\nDate to be agreed\, online synchronous session \n• Interview preparation\n• Review of finalised interview guide / schedule\n• Legal and ethical considerations in oral history: informed consent\, copyright\, GDPR\n• Working through ethical scenarios\n• Pros and cons of in-person versus remote interviewing\n• Basics of digital audio / remote interview recording\n• Transcription guidelines\n• Transcription software \nFacilitator\nDr Verusca Calabria (she/her) is an Associate Professor at Nottingham Trent University. Prior to entering academia\, Verusca worked as a community-based Oral Historian. Her research expertise includes oral history\, participatory-action-research\, and psychosocial approaches to mental health. She is a trustee of the Oral History Society\, a national organisation which promotes best practice in the collection\, preservation and dissemination of oral histories.
